bam!

on a 2-way street at Tomang, a motorcycle hit the right side of my friend's car while we were driving. totally not expecting it. no one died or anything -- or even seriously hurt -- but his sideview mirror was pretty banged up. on top of that, his front tire was punctured. the biker was trying to overtake a car AND a motorcycle as both were driving side by side simultaneously. of course he was going to drive into our lane and go the wrong direction.

i was told that in this country, even if the fault entirely lies on the one driving the bike, those driving a car will always, always be blamed and will have to compensate the "victim." how's that for fairness?

after half an hour of arguing with nosy bystanders and the dude on the bike, my friend gave him 10 bucks and proceeded to change his tire. the rest of us ladies simply sat in the car and watched him do so. i now know how to change a tire. yes, a bit too late now but in the event of a flat tire, i'll be ready to help.

ironically, this song was playing on the radio when it happened.

Royce

It's a girl! She's part Chow Chow and part Bulldog. Don't even ask.

Do you see the bulldog in her? 'Coz I sure as hell don't.

1 pimp and 3 bitches. I guess this makes Toby the king of queens. BOOYAH!

harro - part 2

The following pics were taken during our last 2 days in Tokyo. I'm currently seriously considering teaching in Japan. But then again, I'm always procrastinating. Ugh >_< Tsukiji Fish Market.

Local transporting fish in Tsukiji Fish Market.

Long line in front of a cheap sushi restaurant in Tsujiki Fish Market. We ate breakfast there.

I would just like to say... Best. Sashimi. Ever. That orangy shit that resembles brains in texture is raw sea urchin.

Edamame with roots! :O I usually see them rootless.

Tuna.

This is either the JR line or the Tokyo Metro subway. I don't know anymore. FYI, the suicide rate there is so high that they've sealed all windows of high buildings tight - that way, one can't jump.

Odaiba. A large artificial island in Tokyo Bay, Japan, across the Rainbow Bridge from central Tokyo. It's southeast of Tokyo.

I fuckin' love French Bulldogs. Look at its lil' pecker! How adorable!

We had time to go to NYC before resuming our Japan trip. Kiddin'. That's a replica located in Odaiba.

Takoyaki! MUST GO BACK DESU!!!!!!!!!!!!! >_< Ginza. It was raining heavily. I didn't do much shopping in Japan. Well, I did. But not much. Not that much. UGH, I only got 3 handbags, make-up, tons of snacks, 2 hairbands, and a yukata. That's it. And body lotion. And a froggy umbrella. And '2 maneko neki's. And 2 maneko neki cosmetic bags. And stickers for my students. And postcards.

Okay, I'm done. I think.

The rest of the pictures were taken in the basement of Japan's high class shopping malls where they sell little goodies. I love the fact that they freely give samples. Who needs to go to a restaurant when you can just fill yourself up on the samples? :D

I still have some more Jap pics but MEH. *poof*

Harro! - part 1

Uh, I would just like to say that Japan was AWESOME. And this blog entry does not mean I'm back on the blogsphere. I'm ... still on hiatus. I think.

holy cwap! how pwetty is that!

It is in my humble opinion that Japan has the best toilets around.

I.. I don't know what to say about this. Just like how I didn't know what to say about some of Butchie's uploaded pics in his blog.

Just when I acted cute and Japanese-y, I HAD to have my picture taken with my eyes closed. Yay.

My Hotel room. Sigh. I love the tatami.

Hotel room again. Must go back to Japan desu!

"food prease!" or tabemono kudasai!

"FOOD MOTHERFUCKER!!!" or TABEMONO MAAHDAAHFAAKAA!!!

Live abalone cooked in sake. While I'm not proud of allowing inhumane behavior to happen, it tasted phenomenal. At least it was good?

Kobe beef. Like M&Ms, It just melts in your mouth.

We visited a shrine and before entering it, one has to purify him or herself by washing their hands and mouth.

DUHHHhhh... They resemble Toby and Bella. DUHHHhhhhh.

It was quite uncomfortable wearing those masks. There's me playing Trauma Center: Under the Knife on the DS. With the mask on, I totally felt like a real surgeon. Heh heh heh... geeky moment.

Taken from the Observatory Tower in Shinjuku.

Another shrine. 'Coz I'm all cultured and shit.

I believe the priest is blessing these children with some ritual he's performing. Look at 'em dolls! KAWAII DESU YO! (Japanese children look likes dolls. Not the Chucky type either.)

Check out the woman wearing yellow behind me. Again, what?

Shrine!

...And this picture of my mom and me at the Imperial Palace concludes Debbie's blog entry part 1 about the land of the rising sun.

北京 or Beijing

Overall, I thought Beijing was doable except for two things:
1. The locals SERIOUSLY need to get a control on their phlegm problem. Or at the very least, spit discreetly for chrissake!
2. They can be rude, uncouth, and incredibly loud. Well, not all. I like to say "kampungan" or literally "village-like" which means country-bumpkin-ish but that makes me sound horribly elitist. But... it's true?
I was on a plane from Wenzhou to Beijing and right as the plane landed on the runway and was still in motion, several passengers got up and began to take their bags out of the baggage compartment. i was like... what, the, fuck.

Otherwise, everything's A-okay.

These are crabs. Rather odd-looking huh.

I asked some white dude what a grilled scorpion tasted like since he had just had his picture taken with one hovering above his gaping mouth, like AH-i'm-about-to-eat-this-coz-i'm-insane and he said, "tastes just like a french fry." YEA RIGHT. and he even offered to get me one. fucker. pfft.

The Bird's nest and the National Aquatics Center at night

I've been to China three times and I still haven't seen all of it. I think I may be going back next year to Shenzhen or something. Either that, or it's the Netherlands ;)

上海 or Shanghai

What can I say about Shanghai... Okay. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by people coughing up phlegm and just spitting it onto the streets. yeeeaaaaah. I heard and saw it on a daily basis too. Shanghai and Beijing. and each time, I just cringed.

The touristy European Shanghai called Shikumen.

damn starbucks. damn them all.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic vs Russia's Nikolay Davydenko

Key to a good serve: toss as high as you can and aim straight. Then, with your arm holding the racket like a wound up spring, release.

and the winner for the singles is...

Novak giving away his sweaty wristbands. He even took off his sweaty shirts and threw it at the audience. think of how much that can fetch on Ebay.

Audience: *cheering* "NO...VAK! NO...VAK! NO...VAK!"
Novak Djokovic: *cheering* "Thaaank you! Thaaank you! Thaaank you!"

on top of the US$1,340,000 prize money he wins, he also gets the latest Mercedes S-class model. Dayyyum.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shanghai at night

Across the river is the Pudong district and that's the Oriental Pearl Tower (dong fang ming zhu) on the left.

I did spend a wonderful day with my sister alone. We randomly tried different restaurants and shared icecream at Häagen-Dazs. It reminded me of the years we lived together in Boston. How we walked down Newbury street all the time and endured the cold together during the brutal winters. Nostalgia Indeed.
